Hoover's only come through once this year for prop bettors. Is today the day?

22 plays across 9 games to give you the edge

Hoover's only come through once this year for prop bettors. Is today the day?

Josh Hoover averages 212.5 passing yards a game, and in three of his four games he's finished under 244.5. The market has him at 244.5 passing yards for Indiana as they play Rutgers tonight, in a game where Indiana is laying 24.5 points. He's only reached that number once this season, and Rutgers gives up 166.8 rushing yards a game, so we expect Indiana to hand the ball off and watch the clock run. Pit the expectations against the actual numbers, and he keeps coming in below it.

Nine games, 22 plays, and a few that jump off the board. We're fading Jeremiah Smith at 123.5 receiving yards, which feels a little like betting against gravity, but Iowa's whole personality is turning a football game into a three-hour root canal. Somebody on Washington's side of the market woke up early: Demond Williams Jr.'s rushing number moved up overnight and sits at 35.5 now, and we're still riding the over. And Jadan Baugh has cleared 119.5 rushing yards in all four of his games, and now he gets a Missouri defense missing both of its starting edge rushers, so betting against him today is how you end up buying the whole bar a round with your rent money. Every player here was checked this morning. If he's on the card, he's expected to play.

Quick reality check: this is our read on public lines, not advice and not a guarantee. Bet what you can afford to lose, set a budget, and stick to it. If it stops being fun, call or text 1-800-GAMBLER.

No. 5 Ohio State at No. 14 Iowa

3:30 p.m. ET, CBS. Ohio State −14.5, total 45.5 (DraftKings).

Jeremiah Smith (WR, Ohio State): under 123.5 receiving yards

FanDuel −114 · checked Sat 7 AM ET

Smith averages 154 receiving yards a game, but Iowa gives up only 152 through the air to entire offenses, which ranks 12th in FBS, and the whole game is totaled at 45.5. To get to 123.5 he'd need to take about 80 percent of what Iowa usually gives up to everybody combined. Even though he's the best receiver in the country, we believe Iowa drags this one into the mud with him.

Hank Brown (QB, Iowa): under 172.5 passing yards

bet365 −115 · last confirmed Fri

Brown has thrown for 129, 191, 153 and 227, so he's gone over this number twice and stayed under it twice. Ohio State has allowed 160.3 passing yards a game and only two touchdown passes all season. If you saw a Brown listed out this week, that's defensive back Tyler Brown; Hank is healthy. Shop this one, because FanDuel sits at 165.5, and taking the lower number on an under is just handing the book seven free yards.

No. 8 Florida at No. 25 Missouri

3:30 p.m. ET, ABC. Florida −5.5, total 57.5 (DraftKings).

Jadan Baugh (RB, Florida): over 119.5 rushing yards

FanDuel −114 · checked Sat 1 PM ET

Baugh has run for 160, 136, 162 and 142, clearing 119.5 in all four games at 7.2 yards a carry with 11 touchdowns. Missouri is playing without both of its starting edge rushers, Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen, who were each downgraded from questionable to out on Friday's report. Betting against this guy has been a losing hobby all year, and we don't see today being the day it pays off.

Aaron Philo (QB, Florida): under 213.5 passing yards

FanDuel −114 · checked Sat 1 PM ET

Philo's passing yards have dropped every single week, 275, 242, 204 and 196, and his top receiver, Vernell Brown III, who has 17 catches for 271 yards, was listed doubtful with a knee strain across multiple Friday reports. When your running back is averaging 7.2 a carry, nobody in the building needs you to throw it. We expect Florida to keep it on the ground and Philo to keep the trend going.

Donovan Olugbode (WR, Missouri): over 64.5 receiving yards

Caesars −115 · checked Sat morning

Olugbode has 107, 121, 31 and 54 receiving yards on the Covers log (CBS has his season total 9 yards higher), and Florida gives up 232.5 net passing yards a game, which ranks 112th in FBS. Missouri's top two running backs are gone, Ahmad Hardy with a recurring leg injury and Malae Fonoti with a torn ACL, so we expect the ball to go in the air a lot more than usual. The line already moved up from Friday's 62.5 and some books are as high as 69.5, so grab the 64.5 if you can still find it.

No. 24 Kentucky at South Carolina

4:15 p.m. ET, SEC Network. South Carolina −2.5, total 53.5 (DraftKings).

Matt Fuller (RB, South Carolina): over 69.5 rushing yards

bet365 −115 · last confirmed Fri

Fuller has run for 74, 125, 73 and 112, clearing 69.5 in all four games at 6.7 a carry, and Kentucky allows 122.2 rushing yards a game, 61st in FBS. The market may have moved up to 74.5 since Friday, so recheck your book before you lock it in. At 74.5, two of his four games (the 74 and the 73) would have lost, which makes it a whole different bet.

Kenny Darby (WR, Kentucky): over 40.5 receiving yards

DraftKings −114 · last confirmed Fri

Darby has 74, 45, 64 and 43 receiving yards, all over 40.5, and South Carolina's pass defense is last in the SEC at 221 yards a game with 10 touchdowns allowed. Fellow receiver DJ Miller is trending toward out, which leaves more targets to go around. The number may have moved up to 44.5 since Friday, so recheck first, because at 44.5 that 43 would have been a loser.

Kenny Minchey (QB, Kentucky): over 210.5 passing yards

FanDuel · last confirmed Sat 7:30 AM ET

Minchey has thrown for 301, 146, 252 and 177, so he's over this number twice in four. The 146 came against Alabama, and the 177 came in a 45-21 win over South Alabama where Kentucky could run out the clock. South Carolina has allowed 10 touchdown passes and plays without its best edge rusher, Dylan Stewart, who's serving a one-game SEC suspension for throwing a punch against Alabama. The market may have dropped to 199.5 since this morning, so recheck your book; a lower number on an over only helps you. We believe a weak secondary with no pass rush is about as good as it gets for a quarterback.

Night window

Arkansas at Texas A&M

7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2. Texas A&M −14, total 50.5 (DraftKings).

Chris Marshall (WR, Arkansas): over 78.5 receiving yards

FanDuel −114 · last confirmed Fri

Marshall leads the SEC in catches and yards with 28 for 473, and he's gone for 136 and 195 his last two games. Texas A&M has let three different receivers top 100 yards in its last three games. With Arkansas getting 14 points, we expect them to be throwing all night, and Marshall is who they throw to.

KJ Jackson (QB, Arkansas): over 195.5 passing yards

bet365 −115 · last confirmed Fri

Jackson has thrown for 267, 139, 212 and 309, over this number three times in four. A team getting two touchdowns doesn't get to sit back and run the ball for long. We believe this one and Marshall's over cash together, so if you like one, you probably like both.

Marcel Reed (QB, Texas A&M): under 227.5 passing yards

Caesars −115 · last confirmed Fri

Reed is completing 55.4 percent of his passes and threw for just 106 at LSU. Receiver Terry Bussey is out for the season and leading receiver Mario Craver was still questionable on the last report we could find, which leaves Reed short on reliable hands. With a 14-point cushion, we expect Texas A&M to stop throwing once the lead looks safe.

No. 10 BYU at TCU

7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN. BYU −6, total 48.5 (DraftKings).

LJ Martin (RB, BYU): under 99.5 rushing yards

bet365 −120 · last confirmed Fri

Martin has 328 rushing yards this year, and 176 of them came in one game at Colorado State; his other two games were 54 and 98. TCU allows 86 rushing yards a game on 2.87 a carry, 17th in FBS. We believe this line is priced off the Colorado State game, and he hasn't done that to anybody else.

Jaden Craig (QB, TCU): over 225.5 passing yards

FanDuel −114 · last confirmed Fri

Craig has thrown for 391, 337 and 310 in his last three games, and BYU allows 195 passing yards a game. BYU's run defense ranks 11th at 76 yards a game, so we expect TCU to skip the running game and go straight to the air. Books are all over the place on this one, anywhere from 220.5 to 249.5, and paying 249.5 for the same guy is how you turn a good bet into a coin flip.

No. 12 Texas Tech at Colorado

7:30 p.m. ET, FOX. Texas Tech −13.5, total 49.5 (DraftKings).

Will Hammond (QB, Texas Tech): over 235.5 passing yards

FanDuel −114 · last confirmed Fri

Hammond has thrown for 298, 189, 257 and 224, over this number twice in four games, and Colorado allows 237.3 passing yards a game with eight touchdown passes given up. He's also thrown five interceptions, and any one of those can end a drive before the yards pile up. It's a modest lean, but we believe Colorado's secondary gets him there.

J'Koby Williams (RB, Texas Tech): over 2.5 receptions

DraftKings +123 · checked Sat morning

Williams has 8, 2, 3 and 3 catches, clearing 2.5 three times in four, and he's priced at plus money. Texas Tech's running-back workload hadn't been decided as of this morning, so we expect the catches to be the steadier part of his day. Getting plus money on a guy who just needs three catches is about as close to free beer as this card gets.

No. 4 Miami at Clemson

7:30 p.m. ET, ABC. Miami −15.5, total 47.5 (DraftKings).

Gideon Davidson (RB, Clemson): under 59.5 rushing yards

Caesars −120 · last confirmed Fri

Miami allows 39.5 rushing yards a game on 1.86 a carry, first in FBS, and nobody has run for a touchdown on them all year. Davidson's 159 yards at Cal are doing most of the work in this line. We believe 59.5 is priced off that one afternoon in Berkeley, not off what Miami's front does to people.

Tait Reynolds (QB, Clemson): under 182.5 passing yards

Caesars −115 · last confirmed Fri

Reynolds has thrown for 22, 178, 215 and 106, so he's been under this number three times in four, and the one time he got over it was against North Carolina. Miami allows 185 passing yards a game, sixth in the ACC. Against a team laying 15.5, we expect him to spend a lot of the night running for his life instead of throwing.

Darian Mensah (QB, Miami): over 256.5 passing yards

bet365 −115 · last confirmed Fri

Mensah is 94 of 106 with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions, and Miami throws for 361.2 yards a game, fourth in FBS. Clemson gives up 214.8 passing yards a game, 13th in the ACC, and his Heisman odds shortened overnight at FanDuel, from +420 to +370. Our only worry is a big lead and Mensah in a ballcap by the fourth quarter.

Washington at No. 18 USC

7:30 p.m. ET, NBC. USC −8.5, total 58.5 (DraftKings).

Demond Williams Jr. (QB, Washington): over 35.5 rushing yards

FanDuel −114 · checked Sat 1 PM ET

Washington's backfield is a mess, with Jayden Limar and Quaid Carr both out after surgery and Jordan Washington presumed out too, though we couldn't confirm him specifically. Williams has run for 61, 56, 33 and 15, and those carries have to go to somebody. The number moved up overnight from Friday's 30.5 and sits at 35.5 now, and USC allows 118.6 rushing yards a game, so we'd still take it.

Dezmen Roebuck (WR, Washington): over 6.5 receptions

DraftKings −114 · checked Sat 1 PM ET

Roebuck has caught 7, 7, 9 and 7 passes, over 6.5 in every game, and USC's pass defense ranks 106th at 236.2 yards a game. With Washington's backfield this thin, we expect short throws to Roebuck to basically be the run game.

No. 6 Indiana at Rutgers

8:00 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network. Indiana −24.5, total 56.5 (DraftKings).

KJ Duff (WR, Rutgers): over 83.5 receiving yards

Caesars −115 · last confirmed Fri

Duff has 196, 137, 86 and 131 receiving yards, all over 83.5, at 19 yards a catch, and he's fourth in FBS in receiving yards. Indiana's pass defense is good at 168 a game, 26th, but Rutgers will be throwing from behind all night. Getting a guy who averages 137.5 at 83.5 feels like somebody at the book forgot to update the spreadsheet.

Josh Hoover (QB, Indiana): under 244.5 passing yards

FanDuel −114 · checked Sat 1 PM ET

Hoover averages 212.5 passing yards a game and has been under 244.5 three times in four. Rutgers allows 166.8 rushing yards a game, 106th in FBS, and a 24.5-point favorite with that matchup runs the ball. We expect him wearing a headset on the sideline before the fourth quarter gets very old.

The read

The card leans two ways. One is unders on quarterbacks in lopsided games (Hoover and Reed on big favorites, Reynolds against one). The other is overs on volume players stuck on the wrong side of a blowout (Duff, Roebuck, Jaden Craig, Demond Williams Jr.). The one star we're fading is Jeremiah Smith, and that's about Iowa's defense, not Smith. Where books disagree by 10 or more yards on the same market (Hank Brown 165.5 to 199.5, Jaden Craig 220.5 to 249.5), take the friendliest number or skip it. Three afternoon numbers may have moved since Friday (Fuller toward 74.5, Darby toward 44.5, Minchey toward 199.5), so recheck those before you lock anything.

Cut, and why

  • Byrum Brown, QB, Auburn (rushing over 48.5 and passing under 215.5). Market not posted. Neither prop was up on the board at our 1 p.m. recheck, so both are off the card, and with nothing else priced in Auburn at Tennessee, that game is off too.
  • Jeremiah Cobb, RB, Auburn. His number was already showing a Thursday/Friday mismatch (44.5 vs. 45.5), and this morning's re-check couldn't resolve it to a current, confirmed price on a named book. Cut rather than guess.
  • Cameron Dickey, RB, Texas Tech. His line was over 24 hours stale (stamped Friday morning). This morning's check couldn't find a live sportsbook number, and one prediction-market signal (Kalshi) suggested the real total may have dropped hard, toward the low 40s, exactly the kind of move that makes publishing the old number irresponsible. Cut until a clean current price turns up.
  • Mark Fletcher Jr., RB, Miami. He missed Central Michigan last week (upper body). The most current source we could pull this morning (Covers.com's live injury list) still has him Questionable, not cleared, despite Mario Cristobal's upbeat language. Stays cut.
  • Lee Beebe Jr., RB, Indiana. Confirmed still questionable Saturday morning, unresolved since Thursday's downgrade.
  • Turbo Richard, RB, Indiana. Confirmed probable (ankle), trending toward playing.
  • Mario Craver, WR, Texas A&M. Still questionable as of the most recent report we could find (now three days old). No update found either way, so treat with caution and hold the cut.
  • Bo Jackson, RB, Ohio State. Resolved: confirmed questionable (shoulder) across multiple current previews, settling Friday's source conflict. Stays cut.
  • DJ Miller, WR, Kentucky. Trending from doubtful toward fully out; one headline says he's been ruled out but we couldn't independently confirm that exact wording. Treat as out.
  • Dylan Stewart, Edge, South Carolina. Confirmed out, serving a one-game SEC suspension for a punch thrown against Alabama.
  • Ahmad Hardy and Malae Fonoti, RBs, Missouri. Both confirmed out, Hardy recovering from a recurring leg injury, Fonoti out for the season with a torn ACL.
  • Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen, Edge, Missouri. Both confirmed out, each downgraded from questionable on Friday's report.
  • Jayden Limar and Quaid Carr, RBs, Washington. Both confirmed out, each needing surgery with no return timetable.
  • Malachi Toney, WR, Miami. Confirmed healthy, no injury tag anywhere we checked, but no active receiving-yards market exists for him on any book we could reach, this morning or Friday. No number, no prop.

Resolved off the cut list: Dylan Lonergan, QB, Rutgers. Confirmed starting and fully active. He's off every tier of Rutgers' injury report and played (and produced, 12-of-17, 214 yards, two touchdowns) in his most recent game. The uncertainty that got him cut Friday is cleared.
