Week 8 Injury Predictions: the Tuesday First Call
Week 8 Injury Predictions: Lamar Trending Up, Barkley's Hamstring Back in Play
Updated Oct 31: Friday's final reports overtook several of these Tuesday calls. Rashee Rice and Tyler Warren carry no game designation. Breece Hall, DJ Moore, and Jaylen Waddle are questionable. The final injury report has the full list.
Green Bay and Carolina supplied Monday's estimated practice report; Sunday teams file Wednesday, and Monday-night teams file Thursday.
Thursday night: Panthers at Packers
Matthew Golden, Packers WR
Golden was an estimated nonparticipant Monday with shoulder and foot injuries, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. He was limited throughout Week 7 and still played, but Thursday leaves little time for either injury to improve.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: shaky.
Bryce Young, Panthers QB
Young was a full participant Monday, which points toward him playing. His protection remains an issue: Ikem Ekwonu is on PUP with a knee injury, and Brady Christensen is on IR with a hamstring injury, weakening both Young's pocket and the lanes for Chuba Hubbard and Trevor Etienne.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: high.
Josh Jacobs, Packers RB
Jacobs isn't on Green Bay's injury report. Guard Aaron Banks was limited Monday with knee and toe injuries, though, which bears watching for both Jacobs's blocking and Jordan Love's protection.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: high.
Sunday forecast
Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB
Jackson has missed three games with an ankle injury. He was limited in every Week 7 practice before being inactive, and ESPN's feed still carries an Out tag that isn't an official Week 8 designation.
Jesse Minter said Monday that Jackson is "in a decent spot" to play Sunday against Buffalo, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Ethan Pocic, Jovaughn Gwyn, and Danny Pinter are on IR, leaving the interior thinner in front of Jackson and Derrick Henry, but the quarterback's trend finally points upward.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: solid.
DJ Moore, Bills WR
Before Buffalo's bye, Moore's practice sequence with an AC-joint shoulder injury was did not practice, did not practice, limited, followed by an inactive game.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: coin flip.
Oct 31 update: Buffalo's final report lists Moore questionable after limited practices Wednesday through Friday.
Breece Hall, Jets RB
Hall has missed three straight games with a quadriceps injury.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: high.
Oct 31 update: The Jets' final report lists Hall questionable after three limited practices.
Aaron Jones, Vikings RB
A left knee injury forced Jones out of Sunday's 16-10 win over the Colts, but the injury isn't considered significant, and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Jones is viewed as day-to-day. Jordan Mason returned from injured reserve and carried 15 times for 68 yards, giving Minnesota a real second back if Jones plays with a trimmed workload.
Color man: The machine's day-to-day setting is a shrug wearing a lab coat.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: shaky.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, Lions WR
St. Brown tweaked his ankle during Sunday's 20-17 win over Green Bay. Dan Campbell said he should be ready to practice Thursday, according to Richard Silva of The Detroit News.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: high.
Tyler Warren, Colts TE
Warren has missed two games with a groin injury and didn't practice during Week 7. Shane Steichen said he's progressing but couldn't confirm that Warren will return to practice this week, which leaves the forecast pointed toward another absence.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: solid.
Oct 31 update: Warren carries no game designation on Indianapolis's final report.
Jeremiyah Love, Cardinals RB
Love has missed two games with an ankle injury, but Mike LaFleur said Monday that he'll take part in Wednesday's practice, according to Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic. The line remains battered: Paris Johnson Jr. is on IR with a biceps injury, Isaiah Adams is on IR with an ankle injury, and Chase Bisontis is on IR with an MCL injury.
That weakens Jacoby Brissett's protection and the lanes for Love and Tyler Allgeier. Even if Love returns, the work could be shared.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: shaky.
Ladd McConkey, Chargers WR
McConkey suffered a concussion before the bye and was spotted on the field in a no-contact jersey during the Chargers' bonus practice session Monday, per ESPN's injury notes. Getting back onto the field is movement, but he still needs clearance from an independent neurologist.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: shaky.
Rashee Rice, Chiefs WR
Rice missed every Week 7 practice with a hamstring injury and was ruled out. ESPN's feed carries an Out tag, not an official Week 8 designation, but the practice trail still points toward another missed game.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: solid.
Oct 31 update: Rice carries no game designation on Kansas City's final report.
Jaylen Waddle, Broncos WR
Waddle didn't return to Sunday's 30-16 win over Arizona after suffering a chest injury, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post.
Our call: Sits. Confidence: coin flip.
Oct 31 update: Denver's final report lists Waddle questionable with a chest injury.
Puka Nacua, Rams WR
Nacua has no injury tag and caught eight of 10 targets for 68 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-21 win over the Raiders. The coin-operated machine can stay unplugged for this one.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: high.
Saquon Barkley, Eagles RB
Barkley returned Monday night after missing two games with a hamstring injury.
Our call: Plays. Confidence: coin flip.
